More on the passing of Eddy Arnold

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) _ Country music has lost a legend with the death of singer Eddy Arnold at age 89. Arnold sold 85 million records in a career that spanned 60 years. He had 28 No. 1 records. his song ``Make the World Go Away'' was a crossover hit on the pop charts in 1965. Arnold became a pioneer of ``The Nashville Sound,'' also called ``countrypolitan,'' a mixture of country and pop styles. Arnold was the first country music singer to ``cross over'' to the pop field consistently. In 1966, he was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame. The following year he was the first person to receive the entertainer of the year award from the Country Music Association.
