WASHINGTON (AP) _ Kellie Pickler goes to Washington....in her red high heels. The ``American Idol'' alum performed at the U.S. Capitol yesterday in her red heels as part of GrandRally, an event that highlights the plight of grandparents raising their grandchildren. Pickler was raised by her grandparents after her parents separated when she was 2-years-old. Pickler says -- quote -- ``my grandmother was like my best friend. I called her mom. She was amazing.'' Grandma Pickler passed away when Kellie was 15. But Pickler says she saw first hand how grandparents struggle with suddenly becoming parents again. She says ``kids are expensive.'' Meantime, Pickler says she's in the middle of recording a new album, which she says is a better reflection of her and her life. She says ``a lot has happened in the past two years ... It's kind of like an update.'' She says the album has a more personal touch. As Pickler puts it, ``I get a lot more say in this record. I'm a lot more involved. It is a lot more about me.'' The new album's due out at the end of the summer.
